Open Craft, latterly named Open Thing, was a 3 month self-initiated research project carried out at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design with support from the Past Present and Future Craft Practice research project and the Scottish Arts Council. My aim was simply to spend time developing an open source object, or range of objects, and to develop my thinking on open design in general. I chose to use the already initiated Niftymitter project as a subject for my explorations, which were, and continue to be, documented on the project website, Open Thing, at www.openthing.org.

The project will be exhibited in June 2010 in Dundee as part of Craft Festival Scotland.
